Construction

The AKILARIA 40 is manufactured in a female mould; the hull is infused in balsa fibreglass sandwich in the bottoms and in foam fibreglass on the partings.
The deck is infused foam fibreglass sandwich, all internal structures such as transverse and longitudinal bulkheads are in infused foam fibreglass sandwich.
The floors are monolithic infused vinylester fibreglass from a female mould. They are glued with PLEXUS (methacrylate adhesive) to the floor of the hull: this material guarantees a mechanical as well as a chemical bonding.
The deck is also glued to the hull with PLEXUS. Stanchions bolted through the hull bonding area complete the connection.
All interior layouts are in composite material: chart table, galley, sink unit, storage units.

Sterring system

System designed and built in cooperation with JP3.
2 stock and bearings tillers, transmission between the tillers by aluminium connecting bars on ball joints.
Rudder stocks in 49mm diameter F16PH with pins in the rudder profiles. The rudders are mounted under the hull and are made up from female moulds.
The stocks are mounted on JP3 self-aligning ball bearings. The tillers are made up of reinforced glued laminated mahogany fibreglass.

Security on deck

A stainless steel pulpit, two stainless steel side push pits supporting the LED navigation lights, a central push pit supporting the LED stern light, with a double row of stainless steel lifelines all around, supported by 5 stanchions on each side.
The stanchions are in stainless steel tapered at the top with a support leg.

Cockpit

The cockpit was designed to optimise ease of manoeuvring and to facilitate navigation with a reduced crew or single-handed sailing.
Both tillers are fitted with a Spinlock telescopic tiller extension.
The HARKEN main sail sheet traveller is in the bottom of the cockpit.
The steering positions are fitted with stainless steel adjustable foot chocks.
The cockpit is self-draining.
A removable cockpit table allows the provision of a social area.
A deck shower on the cockpit sidewall and a removable bathing ladder on the transom.
The companionway is totally new and facilitates comfortable movement.
Two bulkhead compasses are fitted.

Rigging

The mast and the boom, in anodised aluminium, are manufactured by SELDEN.
The mast is fitted with three levels of push-tillers.
The mast stands on the deck on an anodised aluminium plate.
The mast is fitted with a masthead light, a deck light and anchor light, a windex.
A rigid vang is fitted under the boom.
A removable carbon bowsprit for the gennaker and the asymmetric spinnaker.

Standing rigging

Dyform standing rigging including on each side : 1 vertical cable on turnbuckle, 1 diagonal cable on turnbuckle, 1 diagonal cable 2 on turnbuckle, 1 diagonal cable 3 on turnbuckle 1 and one main stay on Furlex winder.
One textile forestay sail and two textile backstays complete the Dyform.

It is made up of low stretch rope. The halyards are in Dynemaa.

  • 1 main sail with 3 tri radial cut reefs in woven mixed Dacron Dyneema, Hydranet radial 343/383, 5 forced battens. Surface area: 61 sq.m
  • 1 tri radial cut solent jib in woven mixed Dacron Dyneema, Hydranet radial 343/383 on FURLEX roller. Surface area: 42.50 sq.m
  • 1 polyester composite DC66/67 tri radial cut forestay sail. Surface area: 28.50 sq.m with a deck bag.
  • 1 horizontal cut storm jib in fluorescent orange Dacron. Surface area: 9 sq.m
  • 1 2.2 Stormlite tri radial cut code 5 gennaker on KARVER furler. Surface area: 85 sq.m
  • Lazy bag and main sail cover

Marine hardware

Winches are Harken made :
  • 2 x B46-2STA on the roof,
  • 2 x B44-2STA and 2 x B48-STA on the cockpit coaming,
  • 1 x B46-2STA for the main sail sheet on the central pod.
All blocks, turrets and cleats are Harken made.
The clutches are Spinlock and the stainless steel pad eyes are Wichard made.

Keel

Keel fin made in E 36 steel and lead bulb manufactured by Lemer.
Overall weight: 2200 kg including 1900 kg for the bulb.
The fin is finished off in the yard with fibreglass and Epoxy.
Particular attention is paid to the finishing of the profile.

Engine

NANNI 38 HP diesel engine, sail drive on composite chassis integrated into the hull structure.
Engine compartment ventilated by forced ventilation which is activated as soon as the engine is switched on.
Engine panel with rev. counter in the portside aft cabin.
Engine control lever on the starboard upright end of the central pod.
130 litre diesel tank under the cockpit behind the engine compartment.
Twin-blade folding propeller.

Anchoring

Stainless steel removable bow roller shock.
Upright windlass at the back of the anchor locker: PROJECT X2 LOFRANS with OCEANIC radio control including chain counter.
6 Goïot folding mooring cleats.
Self-draining bow chain locker with hinged closing hatch.

Electrical installations

  • 1 Balmar 100A alternator for charging 1 12V 50A OPTIMA start-up engine AGM battery
  • 1 Balmar 150A alternator for charging 4 12V 120A service gel batteries
  • 1 load dispatcher
  • 1 220 v shore power charger for battery
  • BEP 12v electrical panel with 20 circuit breakers and battery tester
  • Battery isolation switches under central block
  • 1 12V socket on chart table
  • 1 220V socket in each cabin and in central cabin
  • HELLA red white LED ceiling light, LED chart reader, LED lighting in cabins and shower room
  • 1 220V shore power socket and 40A battery charger

Fore cabin

Cabin including a double bunk with foam mattress and side shelves.
Portside and starboard lockers.
A LED ceiling light, a reading light, a 220 V socket.
An LP 54 Lewmar deck hatch.

Central cabin

Symmetric central cabin with seats fitted with cushions and backs.
Under-seat storage.
Shelves behind the seats with two half shelves.
Chart table on port side, console storage.
Galley on starboard side with gimballed 2 burner hob / oven.
Sink with mixer tap and salt water tap, an 80 litre fridge with a 12V refrigeration unit
Central cabin table with folding sides.
2 stainless steel handrails.
1 LEWMAR LP54 deck hatch above the central cabin. 1 LEWMAR hatch above the galley.
Floors.

Portside aft cabin

Cabin including a double bunk with foam mattress and shelves above the bunk.
Built-in locker. One LED ceiling light, one reader lamp, 1 220v socket.
1 Lewmar porthole opening onto the roof coaming and 1 in the aft part of the cabin on the cockpit upright.
Floor.

Shower room on aft starboard

Wash-hand basin unit with storage underneath.
Mixer tap on wash-hand basin, pressurised hot and cold water.
Shower unit with teak grating.
Manual marine toilet with 50 litre foul tank and discharge point on deck.

Technical compartment

Technical compartment with large storage space at the back of the shower room.
1 porthole on the cockpit upright facilitates good ventilation.
Storage rack for the cockpit table and bathing ladder.

Plumbing

Flush plastic thru hulls with a quarter turn valve.
2 200 litre water tanks under the port and starboard central cabin seats.
Hot and cold water under pressure.
22 litre hot water tank heated by engine heat exchanger or 220v shore power.

Drainage

Two bilge pumps, one electrical and one manual.
Automatic pump positioned behind the battery pack.
Drainage strainer on mobile hose stowed on a reel in the engine compartment.

Miscellaneous

Boat delivered without electronics, without lines, without standard rigging and without safety equipment.
